ROLE OF LIBRARIAN

A very competent and effective librarian is the key note of any school library. It is not the collection of reading material or amount of budget or the specious alteractive building fitted with modern amenities and most suitable library furniture which decides about the goodness or other arise of a library. It is only the qualified trained librarian supported by other staff member who make the library truly functional.
 DEFINATION OF LIBRARIAN
Librarian: Teacher of the teachers.
Librarian –various role
                -as a teacher
                -as a specialist
                -as a administrator
                -as a head of department
Librarian should be hard working and possess charming and pleasing personality. He should be fair to the student. He must be calm, patient and relaxed with and understanding nature, encouraging the students, helping them to find out the desire information they required.
  QUALITIES OF A LIBRARIAN
  1. He should be able to adjust with our readers.
  2. He should have a through understanding of: - reading programme.  
                                                                 - Methods employed by teacher.
  1. He should have an extensive knowledge.
  2. Ate should have the administrative acumen to run the library.
  3. He should have cultural interest.
  4. He should have working knowledge of reference sources.

    OBJECTIVES OF LIBRARIAN                           

  1. Save the time of readers.
  2. Maximum use of reading material.
  3. Increases the reading habits

     QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Senior librarian:- Master degree in arts/ science /comm.+ degree or equivalent course in library & inf. Science.   Or    Master degree in lib. & Inf. Science.
  2. Librarian:-Graduate with diploma in library & information science.
Library is known the spine of educational institute, and librarian as the brain of the library.

 ROLE OF LIBRARIAN

The school librarian’s job is one of the most difficult and challenging in the field of librarianship.
Librarian should:-
                  - Provide access to a comprehensive range of learning materials in different         format for use to readers.
-          Promote the effective use of the library learning resources.
-          Remain aware of new learning resources.
-          Attend professional conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. and communicate the developments in the profession with junior/ senior colleagues.
-          Advise in the selection of appropriate reading materials for our readers.

 DUTIES OF LIBRARIAN

-          To select, procure and accession the reading materials.
-          To classify reading material.
-          To arrange properly.
-          To take suitable steps for the improvement of the library services.
-          Maintain the library and reading materials.
-          To make catalogue for reading materials.
-          To maintain atmosphere in the library.
-        To perform such other functions in the school connection with improvement of school library services.
-          To maintain references tools for effective reference services to the readers.
-          To arrange new information technology like internet, t.v., etc. in the library.
   AIMS OF LIBRARIAN

    1. Obey all the five laws of lib. Science.
    2. Maximum use of reading materials.
    3. Increase the reading habits of our small readers/Users.
    4. To give maximum satisfaction to the reader.
    5. Save the time of the reader.
    6. To give up to date Knowledge and carrier guidance to reader.
    7. Establish Library as an Information center.
